Introduction

ArcGIS is a Geographic Information system (GIS) software developed by Esri. There are several ArcGIS products suitable for different applications and devices. We are focusing on ArcGIS Desktop, which includes ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap and ArcGIS Online.

ArcGIS Pro is a desktop GIS application that enables users to combine, edit, visualise, analyse and share spatial data. ArcMap is the older version of ArcGIS Pro. The web-based mapping software ArcGIS Online allows users to build interactive maps.

There are many ArcGIS tutorials available. The ones we are referring to are from the Esri Academy, Esri lesson gallery and ArcGIS YouTube channel and cover the basics and fundamentals of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. However, many more tutorials exist. For example, there are also tutorials addressing different analysis and computations (e.g. distance analysis, deep learning, surface interpolations) or covering thematic topics (e.g. travel time for a tsunami, racial disparities in police attacks, dangerous roads).

Do you still need to install ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Pro? Please check the installation manuals for Windows from @hoc, the student IT desk of the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment of TU Delft.

ArcGIS cannot be installed on every macOS device. To use ArcGIS Pro, a contemporary macOS with a quad-core Intel processor, 256 GB storage, and 8GB RAM or more are required.
